Gambling is regulated province by province
Canada has no single national online-casino regulator. Instead, each province is responsible for gambling within its borders under the federal Criminal Code, which requires that gambling be "conducted and managed" by the province.
Ontario: a fully regulated open market
Since April 2022, Ontario has run a competitive regulated market. Private operators register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and sign an agreement with iGaming Ontario (iGO), which "conducts and manages" the market. Alberta: a second regulated market in 2026

The rest of Canada
Most other provinces offer their own government-run online casino (for example, the PlayNow and Loto-Québec platforms) while privately run offshore sites operate in a legal grey area.
